Planning a wedding today doesn’t have to be traditional. There are many options for ways in which couples can marry and still have a memorable big day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Short, Short Version<\/span><\/h2>\n

The short version is pretty much what it sounds like. Cutting down the ceremony so that it’s quick, like under 15 minutes quick. This does not mean you don’t take your vows seriously or should do anything other than saying “I Do.” It just means there isn’t an entire page dedicated to reading out each persons’ accomplishments. Those who want something short but meaningful consider\u00a0<\/span>exchanging promises<\/span><\/a>\u00a0with one another rather than pledges about love and fidelity. Everyone has heard these before, anyways. And if anyone seems restless sitting through too much verbiage and traditions, just take a deep breath and think to yourself, “I’ve only got 15 minutes. Let’s make it count.” The point is if you can say what needs to be said in under fifteen minutes, then do so.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Do It Yourself Wedding<\/span><\/h2>\n

DIY means that instead of paying someone or hosting an event at a venue where they do all the work (even down to setting up decorations), you handle everything on your own. This includes planning out every detail and doing much of the legwork, such as finding vendors (photographer, dress, flowers, etc.) If money isn’t an issue for you, then hiring professionals will save time. If not, consider DIYing most things, including\u00a0<\/span>invitations\u00a0<\/span><\/a>– which are easy enough online anyways. Or even for your reception, making\u00a0<\/span>homemade<\/span><\/a>\u00a0smoked burgers will save you a lot of money from caterers. Even though it might take a little more time and effort, the advantage is you can make your wedding as unique as you want with personal touches that really represent who you are.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Destination Wedding<\/span><\/h2>\n

Go remote and travel! Instead of hosting a big wedding at home, why not travel to where your favorite\u00a0<\/span>destination\u00a0<\/span><\/a>might be? This works well if you love tropical places such as Hawaii or Jamaica. Other options exist, including the beach in Mexico and even Europe. Keep an eye out for deals on airlines and hotels. There are often discounts, especially during off-seasons which means you can make your money go further while saving yourself some stress by having everything taken care of already. Everyone who comes must have enough time to get away from work, though. Because traveling takes up precious vacation days, try only inviting those closest to you – family & best friends – rather than co-workers or business acquaintances.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Bare Minimum Wedding<\/span><\/h2>\n

If hosting a reception sounds like too much work, why not just get married at city hall? It’s simple, easy, and doesn’t require any special permission. All that matters are your ID &\u00a0<\/span>marriage license<\/span><\/a>. This means this works well for those who don’t want to wait in line or bother their friends attending what could feel more like an obligation than anything else. You’ll also save money on buying rings (or making them yourself) since all you need to do here is sign some papers before taking home your certificate.<\/span><\/p>\n

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a traditional wedding ceremony. Sometimes, however, people are looking for something different\u2014and there are many ways to have an alternative wedding without being anti-traditional or rebellious<\/a>. Remember, it’s your day, do whatever makes you feel comfortable and makes your dreams come true, then do it.<\/span><\/p>\n
