Now that I\u2019ve decided what to make and I\u2019ve bought my ingredients, the next step is to prep.\u00a0 What I do next is to print all of my recipes and look at the prep time.\u00a0 Again, Thanksgiving is not a day to \u201cexperiment\u201d with the unknown.\u00a0 You should get your favorite recipes or recipes from people you trust.\u00a0 Personally, I\u2019m an Alton Brown fan.\u00a0 His use of ingredients and techniques are great.\u00a0 They also leave a little room for alteration.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/edelalon.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/carrots.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2399 alignright\" title=\"carrots\" src=\"https:\/\/edelalon.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/carrots.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"116\" height=\"144\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/edelalon.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/onion.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2398 alignright\" title=\"onion\" src=\"https:\/\/edelalon.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/onion.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"137\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/edelalon.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/celery.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2397 alignright\" title=\"celery\" src=\"https:\/\/edelalon.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/celery.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"85\" height=\"130\" \/><\/a>I take all the recipes and lay them out.\u00a0 You\u2019ll notice that the time it takes to make each dish differs.\u00a0 You want to keep an eye on these times\u2014prep time and cook time.\u00a0 What you\u2019ll also see is that some of the ingredients overlap such as: onions, garlic, celery, and carrots.<\/p>\n<p>Now that you\u2019ve seen similarities across the board, you can chop the onions, celery, and carrots for all the dishes at once (you\u2019ll cry less). Put these ingredients in separate bowls until your ready to cook.<\/p>\n<p>Another technique that I like to do during this time of the year is to do all the preparation a day before and place the items in the refrigerator until I\u2019m ready.\u00a0 You\u2019ll find that some grocery stores have pre-chopped, pre-sliced, and minced everything.\u00a0 It\u2019s the same concept except yours will be fresh.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of timing, I&#8217;ll start a turkey on Wednesday morning before I head to work (brine is a good thing).\u00a0 Wednesday afternoon I&#8217;ll start the slicing and dicing.\u00a0 The pork will go into the oven around midnight.\u00a0 Thursday morning I&#8217;ll start the soup and the potatoes.\u00a0 Around noon or so, I&#8217;ll throw the turkey\/roast in the oven and start the vegetables.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>All about prep.
