No problem, because instead, you\u2019re in a <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.edelalon.com\/blog\/2025\/08\/city-commuting-made-simple-whats-the-best-option\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">city commute <\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">and you\u2019re crammed onto a train (or bus) that reeks of three-day-old coffee and a smelly egg sandwich (or just anything gross for that matter). Well, by the time you finally drag yourself through the office doors, you already feel like you\u2019ve done a full day\u2019s work. And it\u2019s not even 9 a.m. yet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It\u2019s awful, right? If you\u2019re dealing with this every single day for your job, yeah, it\u2019s absolutely miserable, and this description hits way too close to home. Well, for most people, the commute is the absolute worst part of the day. It\u2019s the mood-killer that sets everything else off on the wrong foot. Now, does it actually have to be this miserable? Well, no, even though it feels like it. Actually, that time is yours. It\u2019s not the DMV, it\u2019s not detention, and it doesn\u2019t have to feel like punishment. Think of it as the little buffer between your home life and your work life. It\u2019s the chance to mentally shake things off, reset, and arrive without dragging your morning chaos in behind you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">When you start looking at it that way, the whole mood shifts. Instead of staring at the clock and groaning, you can actually use it to get something out of it, well, even if that \u201csomething\u201d is just not wanting to scream at a traffic light.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Make it Your Moving Morning <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Routine<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Oh yeah, basically, everyone\u2019s obsessed with morning routines these days. But guess what? Yours doesn\u2019t need to stop the second you leave your front door. Nope, really, you read that right, instead, stretch it out into your commute. That could mean putting on your feel-good playlist and vibing your way to work, or listening to that audiobook that makes you forget you\u2019re even on the bus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">But even something simple like swapping your usual route for one that\u2019s slightly nicer to look at can set the tone differently. Instead of brake lights and concrete, maybe you get a park view or catch the sunrise. So, if you think of it that way, it\u2019s just a part of your routine, and it just doesn\u2019t feel so bad with that mental shift.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Move Your Body in a Way that Doesn\u2019t Feel Like a Workout<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Now, sure, that heading sounded weird, but <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">just<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> bear with this for just a second.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> So, <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">the human body wasn\u2019t built<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> to sit in bumper-to-bumper traffic for an hour every morning. Really, it wasn\u2019t, and all of this is still technically a new concept (even though it doesn\u2019t feel like it). So yeah, it\u2019s no wonder it feels like you\u2019ve already done battle before you even clock in. Add some movement, and things start to shift.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Now, don\u2019t panic. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">This<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> doesn\u2019t mean running to work like you\u2019re auditioning for a fitness commercial. Yeah, there are people who quite literally run or jog to work (it was even a trend for a lot of people in Manhattan a few years ago). Anyways, no, no running. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Honestly, you could <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">just<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> walk to work if you live close enough.<\/span> <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">But of course, you could <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">just<\/span> <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mokwheelstore.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">buy an e-bike<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> and ride that to work instead.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Doing a commute by bike isn\u2019t anything new, but it\u2019s thankfully becoming more common.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Sure, people in Japan, Denmark, and the Netherlands do this daily, but riding bikes around is becoming more widely accepted in major cities (and smaller ones) worldwide. Oh, and it helps that bike lanes are becoming more common <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">too<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. But skipping traffic and getting that fresh air really can help.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Rebrand it as \u201cMe Time\u201d<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">You have to keep in mind that nobody owns your commute but you. It\u2019s the one part of the day when you\u2019re not being pulled in every direction by bosses, kids, or never-ending notifications. It\u2019s your time, and you get to call the shots.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Believe it or not, <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">but<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> some people use it to brainstorm ideas, others to totally zone out and give their brain a break.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> It doesn\u2019t matter what you do, as long as it feels like you\u2019re using the time for yourself instead of letting it drain you. Even if all you do is sip coffee and stare out the window, that\u2019s still time that belongs to you.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Shake Up the Scenery<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">So, one of the worst things about commuting is how predictable it is. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Now, <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">just<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> think about it all for just a moment; same traffic.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Same train stops. Same frustration. Day after day. No wonder it feels like Groundhog Day with more honking. Even the tiniest changes can make it feel less like punishment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Ideally, try switching up your route so it passes through a neighborhood you like, or get off the train one stop early and take a walk that actually feels nice. It doesn\u2019t have to be longer; it just has to feel different. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It helps <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">to <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">just<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> notice your surroundings and all the new changes<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Use it as a Reset <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Button<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Yeah, this last one sounds a tad weird, since it\u2019s the commute to work and all, but it doesn\u2019t have to be bad in the slightest. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">So, <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">just<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> think of your commute as the line in the sand.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> On the way in, it\u2019s where you gear up for the day ahead. On the way home, it\u2019s where you dump everything so it doesn\u2019t follow you through the door.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">That reset is powerful, and it can completely change how you show up on both sides of the ride. A lot of people do think of it like this, too; it\u2019s like a <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/councils\/forbescoachescouncil\/2023\/04\/28\/how-to-train-your-brain-to-separate-work-life-from-home-life\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">buffer to break away from work<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> so they can enjoy the rest of their day.
