Need a replacement part? You have the choice between OEM parts, which come from your vehicle manufacturer or its approved supplier, or aftermarket parts, which come from another company. The question is, which do you buy? Some parts are more advantageous to replace with OEM versions, while others give you better options through the aftermarket. Here\u2019s what you need to know before you start ordering parts.<\/p>\n

Engine Gaskets \u2014 OEM Is the Safer Bet<\/h2>\n

Is OEM or aftermarket better for engine gaskets<\/a>? In most cases, OEM is the call. Engine gaskets seal the spaces between metal components under extreme heat and pressure. If one fails, you’re looking at coolant leaks, oil contamination, or a blown head gasket that takes the engine down with it.<\/p>\n

OEM gaskets are cut to the exact tolerances of your engine. Aftermarket versions can come close, but that’s exactly where gasket failures start.
