{"id":309,"date":"2009-06-04T23:45:52","date_gmt":"2009-06-05T06:45:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/edelalon.com\/blog\/?p=309"},"modified":"2017-10-20T02:41:30","modified_gmt":"2017-10-20T09:41:30","slug":"shun-ultimate-utility-knife","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edelalon.com\/blog\/shun-ultimate-utility-knife\/","title":{"rendered":"Shun Ultimate Utility Knife"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the things that my wife told me to do when we married was to tell people what I want for the holidays or else I\u2019ll get crap as gifts.\u00a0 I finally learned my lesson after a few sweaters and socks.\u00a0 Since then I\u2019ve told people that I want everything kitchen as possible.\u00a0 Over the years I\u2019ve seen my share of measuring utensils, dishrags, graters, and cheese cloth.\u00a0 Of course these gifts end up creating a bunch of wonderful tasting delights back to the giver.<br \/>\nWhat&#8217;s cool is that every once in a while I\u2019ll get a really cool kitchen item.<\/p>\n<p>This past holiday season, two friends of mine (Jennifer Tapken and Kat Li) were gracious enough to honor me with a Shun Classic Ultimate Utility knife.\u00a0 I felt like I was knighted as one of King Arthur\u2019s court.<\/p>\n<p>This knife is amazing!\u00a0 I know never mentioned a bread knife in the previous blog on all the knives you&#8217;ll need.\u00a0 I\u2019m going to have to digress and say that you really need a good bread knife.\u00a0 Yes, I did say they gave me a utility knife but look at this thing.\u00a0 A nice serrated edge that slices through tomatoes and bread like it was softened butter.<br \/>\nThe Shun Ultimate Utility knife, also known as the U2, was modeled after the bread and butter knives sandwich makers wield.\u00a0 You\u2019ll notice the spatula looking blade.\u00a0 This blade was not only made to slice through bread; it is a great tool to spread mayonnaise (link to grilled cheese article).<\/p>\n<p>I think I\u2019ve found a new favorite in the kitchen.\u00a0 I just might put away my pairing knife and use this as my lead knife when I reach into the block.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s how Williams Sonoma describes it: <em>The perfect sandwich slicer, this multitalented serrated knife cuts effortlessly through meats, crusty breads, cheeses and tomatoes. The 6&#8243; long blade is forged of high-carbon VG-10 \u201csuper steel\u201d clad with microthin layers of stainless steel for a lasting ultrasharp edge. The knife\u2019s wide shape and rounded tip are ideal for spreading condiments.
