As the year wraps up, I wanted to take a moment to highlight something important: password security. SplashData recently released a list of the most commonly used passwords in 2017 \u2014 and some of them are shockingly easy to guess.<\/p>\n

With cybersecurity becoming more critical in 2018, here are a few tips to help keep your accounts safe and used only<\/em> by you:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. \n

    Never share your passwords.<\/strong> That means with friends, family, coworkers \u2014 anyone.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  2. \n

    Enable two-step verification<\/strong> wherever it’s available. It adds an extra layer of protection.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  3. \n

    Choose long passwords<\/strong> over overly complex ones. A phrase or sentence is better than \u201cP@ssw0rd!\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  4. \n

    Use different usernames and passwords<\/strong> for each account or system.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  5. \n

    Use a secure password manager<\/strong> like LastPass, Dashlane, or 1Password to keep track of everything. (No, a sticky note under your keyboard doesn\u2019t count.)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  6. \n

    Don\u2019t change your password unless you need to.<\/strong> Frequent changes often lead people to just add a number or symbol to the same weak password. Not helpful.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Cyber threats are only getting smarter \u2014 make sure you are too.<\/p>\n
