{"id":801,"date":"2009-07-09T23:29:32","date_gmt":"2009-07-10T06:29:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/edelalon.com\/blog\/?p=801"},"modified":"2018-05-05T20:55:59","modified_gmt":"2018-05-06T03:55:59","slug":"grilled-cheese-recipe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edelalon.com\/blog\/grilled-cheese-recipe\/","title":{"rendered":"Grilled Cheese Recipe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/edelalon.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/grilledcheese.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-802\" title=\"grilledcheese\" src=\"https:\/\/edelalon.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/grilledcheese-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"grilledcheese\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.edelalon.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/grilledcheese-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.edelalon.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/grilledcheese-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.edelalon.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/grilledcheese-100x100.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>The boys really enjoy grilled cheese sandwiches&#8211;it&#8217;s one of my favorite snacks too.\u00a0 Over the years I&#8217;ve travelled the country and tasted the different styles of grilled cheese.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been to restaurants where the menu lists grilled cheese.\u00a0 I usually leave the critiquing to the boys whose palettes are more advanced than the normal 7 and 8 year old.\u00a0 There are only a few ways you can make grilled cheese sandwiches.\u00a0 Really, how hard can it be?\u00a0 The main concept is taking a slice of bread, put cheese on it, put another slice of bread on top, and heat.<\/p>\n<p>Each household has their process.\u00a0 I\u2019ve listed some:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Butter one side of the bread slices and grill in a pan (one side of butter will be enough to crisp the bread on both sides).<\/li>\n<li>Butter both bread slices and grill in a pan (you need both sides buttered to get a good crisp).<\/li>\n<li>Butter both sides of the two bread slices and grill in a pan (butter is good).<\/li>\n<li>Spray the pan with cooking spray and grill the sandwich (for those who live and die by the spray)<\/li>\n<li>Make the sandwich and put it in the toaster oven and toast (no need for any more fat in my diet).<\/li>\n<li>Toast the bread, while hot, place the cheese in the middle (obviously, doesn\u2019t have a pan in the kitchen).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I\u2019ve tested each of these in my kitchen, and I even tried substituting butter with olive oil.\u00a0 While some of these ideas are quick, taste good, and are technically a grilled cheese sandwich, they don\u2019t have the crisp crunch when you bite into the bread.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s my recipe:<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nIngredients<\/strong><br \/>\n2 slices of bread<br \/>\n1 slice of cheese<br \/>\n1.5 teaspoons of mayonnaise<\/p>\n<p><strong>Directions<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Heat your pan on medium heat.<\/li>\n<li>Lay the bread and spread mayonnaise on each of them.<\/li>\n<li>Place the bread in the pan; mayonnaise side down.<\/li>\n<li>Place the cheese on top of the bread.<\/li>\n<li>Place the other slice of bread on the cheese, mayonnaise side up.<\/li>\n<li>Wait until the bottom half browns (about 2-3 minutes).<\/li>\n<li>Flip.<\/li>\n<li>Wait until the bottom half browns (about 1-2 minutes).<\/li>\n<li>Serve.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Yes, I said mayonnaise.\u00a0 Here\u2019s the logic.\u00a0 Mayonnaise is made up of eggs and oil.\u00a0 When you spread the mayonnaise on the bread and grill it, the eggs come out and cook while the oil is used to help it crisp.\u00a0 Just think of fried eggs and the crispy edges you like to eat\u2014it\u2019s the same concept.\u00a0 Also, have you ever tried using butter to make grilled cheese sandwiches, and the butter tore into the bread?\u00a0 Mayonnaise is easy to dispense and spreads on easily.\u00a0 When using this technique, you&#8217;ll always get a crispy outer crust and soft melted cheese in the middle.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve ventured out of the grilled cheese world and use the same techniques to make grilled ham &amp;
