Project Management Software with Your Hosting Provider

I was trying to find some kind of project management software to use on this site. As much as I wanted to stick with a WordPress plug-in I couldn’t justify having the readers also have access to a project management view of what I’m working on.

I decided to check out what my host provides. I use Gecko Hosts and they have a full suite of loadable add-ins to my hosting. I clicked on the Project Management tab and received the following list. Well, the last column are my notes. I needed something that matched my style and had a user interface.

Here’s my criteria:

  1. Just looking for a project management suite. I don’t want email, document management, or bug tracking abilities.
  2. Needs to be easy to use and clean looking.
  3. Have a patch done within the past year.
  4. Have a good support network or documentation.

One can say this is too much to ask but at least I know what I want.

qdPM Project Management
Feng Office Groupware
eyeOS Dead

Mantis Bug Tracker Bug Tracker
Rukovoditel Project Management
The Bug Genie Bug Tracker
PHProjekt Groupware Website does not work

WebCollab Project Management

Burden Task Management Burden is no longer actively maintained, for a similar product check out chore

With this list, I narrowed it down to 3:

  1. qdPM
  2. Rukovoditel
  3. SOPlanning

SOPlanning didn’t have a demo without registration so I skipped it and when to qdPM and Rukovoditel. These two seemed very similar to each other. In fact, they both have extensions to the project with the same features. Well, qdPM was about $300 and Rukovoditel was $250.

Now, the downside. As much as I played with the demos, I could not see myself using software that was built in Russia. Sorry, I get so many hack attempts to this site from Russia.

Where’s does this leave me?

Back to MS Project.
