How To Dispose Of Your Old Car

Parting with your beloved car can be a tough decision. However, sometimes it’s necessary; perhaps your car is old, and you need a new one that doesn’t cost so much to run, or maybe your family is growing, and you need a bit more space. Whatever your reason for parting with your vehicle, there are a few clever ways to get rid of a car that won’t cost you too much or take too much effort.

 Sell To A Dealership

If your car is still in good shape and hasn’t racked up too many miles, your best bet is to sell it to a dealership. Of course, a dealership will not pay you what your vehicle is worth, but if you want to get rid of it for a reasonable sum and perhaps part exchange it for a new car, this can work well. Ultimately, dealers want to acquire your vehicle for a low price so they can fix it up and resell it for a profit. They won’t give you market value because of this. If this doesn’t bother you, this is an easy option.

To receive the best price, you should go to a dealership that specializes in your vehicle’s brand. Also, don’t take the first offer you come across. To get the best deal, you’ll want to shop around.

Sell Privately

If you have a little more time, selling your car yourself is one of the best ways to get a fair price and maybe even a little profit. It’s true that this method of selling your car requires some additional effort, but the result might be well worth it.

Cleaning and detailing your car yourself, photographing it from all sides, and offering it online are some of the greatest self-selling tactics, especially if you want to get a good price for the vehicle. Try Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace, both of which enable you to post and sell items for free.

Scrap It

If you know your vehicle is past its prime and there’s no way to resell it for a reasonable price, your best chance is to scrap it and get some money from doing so. There are several firms that pay good money for junk cars, and they might even come to collect the car from you. Otherwise, you’ll need to hire a tow truck to remove it and take it to them.

In certain circumstances, you may not get much for your car at all, but even if that is the case, at least it will no longer be something you need to worry about, and a little money is always better than none.

Sell It For Parts

If your vehicle is beyond repair or resale, there is an additional alternative. There are several online platforms and auctions where you can sell your car’s useable components. Even if you have a vehicle that’s a few decades old, it’s still possible to earn a considerable amount of money selling its parts.

After you’ve sold all of the most precious components, you can take the remaining scrap metal to a scrap yard and sell it for scrap metal prices.
