Guide to Honeymoons During the Pandemic

The last two years have introduced a new fear and stress – the pandemic, and naturally, it has affected every aspect of our lives. Planning a honeymoon is a part of that too. And as we know, when newlyweds go on their honeymoon, it is supposed to create a feeling of excitement and adventure that would remind you of the first time going away somewhere.

This is the reason why today we are going to get into the subject of honeymoons during the pandemic – what to do, what to avoid, and all tips and tricks we could find, gathered in one place, prepared especially for you!

1.      Look into potential restrictions in the country you want to travel

When looking into honeymoon destinations, the first thing we advise you to check is how that country has been dealing with the pandemic in terms of restrictions. Some countries have taken a more laid-back approach than others that have implemented strict precautions when dealing with COVID19. This instantly means that you would need to make a longer list of things when it comes to what you want to do during the honeymoon and follow that list – see where it takes you!

Take into consideration that even though some countries have reported an influx of visitors during certain periods of the past two years, you would also need to check whether there is a mandatory quarantine immediately upon returning to your home. Also, check whether you need to take a COVID19 test before traveling or if you should have your vaccination passport in a special form that is compliant with the regulations of the country where you would be going.

Do your research thoroughly and narrow down the options before going into specifics.

2.      Once you narrow down the choice, answer yourself – international or domestic travel

When you are done with the research in terms of restrictions, we advise you to think again – is it worth it to travel internationally if there is a risk of getting infected or being in quarantine when you get back, or is it an acceptable option to travel within your country.

Before the pandemic happened, one of the best honeymoon destinations was Italy, but nowadays, between the complications due to the various levels of restrictions, newlyweds tend to go wherever they can! This has turned for the better since there are plenty of hidden gems in terms of romantic and adventurous spots that you can discover all around the world!

However, if this looks like a far-fetched idea while you are collecting information, we advise you to look into everything your country can offer (especially if it has a lot of beaches). There are always new places to see and new experiences to cross off your list, no matter where you live!

After all, considering all aspects, going on a honeymoon during the pandemic somewhere locally, within your country, may not be such a bad idea.

3.      Finding a place that is COVID19-compliant, and make sure you have travel insurance

Safety is the most important bit you have to take care of before traveling. There are two important aspects of safety that you need to focus on while planning your trip – the first one is checking that the hotel or accommodation you want to book is COVID19 compliant. This means that the employees take special care of their visitors and the entire space, use disinfectants and use face masks too. This information is usually found on the first page of their website. If the information is not available for your attention, you can always call them or write them an email.

The second part of having a safe honeymoon during the pandemic is being insured. This is a very important one – never go anywhere without being insured. Talk to your partner and see which travel insurance is the best option for you, and then go for it. Being insured while traveling is the best way to spend a carefree vacation and the honeymoon of your dreams!

4.      Focus on outside activities

This should not be a very difficult thing to do, but wherever you go, you can try to focus on learning about the interesting places you can visit. Any honeymoon destination you choose should offer a wide array of outdoor activities – whether you are thinking about diving, swimming, climbing, or spending the golden hour at the best table in the finest restaurant – the options should be plenty. The reason for this is because you want to keep the entertainment on an optimal level, and keep it romantic at the same time! Another option is to ask your concierge about all the secluded places and more romantic, yet outdoorsy activities that you and your partner can do together. Any local person would be an expert when it comes to remote locations, so keep that in the back of your mind.

5.      Take a deep breath and relax

This last one is not that much of a guideline, but rather a piece of advice for all of you newlyweds to be. Organizing a honeymoon during the pandemic can be a very stressful time for both you and your partner, so please always try to relax. Remember that you will soon be married, stepping into a prosperous future, and soon you will be enjoying an incredible place where you will go to relax!

After all, at the end of the day, a honeymoon, even if it is during a pandemic, should be a time of love. These past few years we have seen plenty of honeymooners get disappointed because their plans were postponed or canceled. Even though nowadays there are more possibilities for this to happen, you need to be aware of the fact that everything is relative, pandemic or not – and you should not be affected by the things that you can’t change. That being said, focus on what you can change and control, and make sure to cross off all the points from your list when you are organizing the honeymoon.

This is a time for you and your love, so focus on the good, stay calm and prepare smartly. You will have the loveliest of times!
