FileZilla FTP Client

0

Filezilla LogoMy coworker pointed me to FileZilla since I was looking for a good FTP client for my Vista machine. I just haven’t had time to play with Microsoft’s Command Shell just yet. I’m sure I’ll get to it but for now there’s FileZilla. Oh, the other cool thing is that there is a download for XP, OS X, and Linux.

So far so good.  It’s definitely easy to configure.  The main things to configure are at the top of the window: Host, Username, Password, and Port.  One of my pet peeves is that companies that make software for multiple platforms do not make the use interface the same.  With FileZilla, the user interface is the same across the board.  But here’s the best thing of all, it’s free!

Possibility of Guam and Palau to Be in the Same Time Zone

0

Palau

The measure which seeks daylight saving efforts has beenpassed on second reading at the Senate, Tuesday.

SEN. Surangel Whipps Jr. earlier proposed a measure to require that the Republic of Palau observe the time zone of Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.  The measure said that since Palau is situated near the eastern edge of its time zone, which causes the sun to set before 7 p.m. all year round.   By turning the clocks ahead one hour, Palau will effectively gain an extra hour of sunlight, thus reducing our consumption of artificial light (lights that ordinarily are turned on at 6:30 p.m. not need to be turned on until 7:30 p.m.), and resulting in energy savings.

It said that advancing the clocks in the Republic of Palau will permit Palau residents to enjoy one hour more of sunlight after-work hours.  Palau then should adopt the time zone of its closet neighbors, Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, both of which are in the time zone 10 hours ahead of General Mean Time, which is one hour ahead of Palau.

Silence the Violence, Oakland, California

I attended a fair put on by the Ella Baker Center for their Silence the Violence campaign. I saw that someone posted one of their posters on a manhole and I couldn’t resist taking a picture of it.

What Vegetable is This?

2

What is it?I received a bag full of organic vegetables the other day. There were collard greens, onions, garlic, squash, carrots, and this item below. Help! I’m not sure what it is and I was hoping one of you out there knows. I’ve taken a picture from the top, side, and a cross section.

The outside is this yellowish color and the texture is smooth and slightly waxy. I smells like a cucumber and tastes almost like one. The texture is also like a crisp cucumber and the seeds are really hard.

I’m about to saute it in some butter to see if it’s a squash. Do any of you know what it is?

iPhone 3GS vs HTC Hero Dogfight

0

This is 3 of 3 videos that compare differences between the iPhone 3GS and the HTC Hero.  Not too bad of a dogfight page.  I was expecting more of a race between the phones instead of highlighting all the features…or lack thereof.

Tron Legacy Movie

1

Tron was one of my favorite movies growing up. I have to admit that I didn’t really understand the storyline. I was watching it mainly because it seemed like a world stuck between real life and cartoon.

Here’s the trailer for you to enjoy.  Yeah Disney!

Award Winning Chocolate Cake Recipe

0

Can one really have too much chocolate?  Here’s a picture I dug up from my archives of a cake I did back in December ’08 for my company’s holiday party dessert contest.

I remember lightly sleeping that night in preparation of this cake.  This is a chocolate cake, raspberry filling, and a chocolate ganache poured all over.  It’s decorated with Fleur de Sel (salt) and some coco powder.  Salt with chocolate?  It’s a perfect combination–think Snickers.  The salt boosts the flavor of the chocolate.  Many chocolatiers have sea salt crusted truffles of some sort.

While I went into the competition for taste I ended up winning for presentation.
