Why A Passion For Sound Is The Most Important Thing To Have When Making Music

Music is a type of art. And as everyone knows, when you make art, you need to have a love for the medium you’re working with. You need to be passionate about your work and committed to it, thanks to those deep-seated feelings it brings out in you.

Any artist who takes a more ‘rational’ approach to sound won’t find their music career anywhere near as satisfying! Really, if you want to be a professional, a love for music is the one thing you need when you’re starting. When you do, you’ll experience benefits like these.

Your Emotions Will Come Out in Your Music

Passion for music makes passionate music – that’s the long and short of it. When you love what you do, you create bigger and better results. And not only will you make music you can be genuinely proud of, the audience will hear your passion for the art in the way you play and sing too

This is something record executives look out for as well. A figure like Clive Davis would be unlikely to sign someone who’s only going through the motions. You need to express what’s inside when you make your music, as it’s the best way to catch someone’s ear and pull them in.

You’re More Likely to Expand Your Musical Skills

When you’re passionate about creating music, you’re going to invest in your skills in the long term.

You’re not going to choose one instrument and go with it. You’re going to be flexible, variable, and have a lot more fun earning new musical skills you can make better music with.

Having a love for music encourages this, quite naturally. It’s hard to find this sense of internal encouragement anywhere else, so you really do need to feel that enjoyment when you first start out

It Makes the Ups and Downs of a Musical Career Much Easier

While you can make money off of music, everyone knows it’s a pretty tricky thing to manage!

You can have good weeks and very, very bad ones. Sometimes you’ll be booked up to the eyeballs, and sometimes you’ll be waiting ages for a message back from the venues or shows you recently auditioned for.

And no one wants to go through these downs, even if the ups feel so good. But when you have an innate love for music, it’s much easier to bear the bad times that come and go.

You know you still have your passion, and you know you’re talented, and you won’t feel anywhere near as insecure about whether or not other people can see those traits in you. You have the passion within you so you already know them to be real.

A passion for sound is essential when you make music. Without this love for rhythm and beat, you’re not going to make music that has true feeling and potential in it. So, try to encourage your passion for music making; it creates better artists!
